Writing for my blog has been something I haven’t kept up on.
Writing about time management is one thing. Actually practicing it is another.
In the past year besides working a full-time research job, I co-founded a community newspaper. I spend 10-20 hours per week working on newspaper articles, including interviews, photos and graphics, writing, copy editing, marketing, and IT.
It’s worth the time. We work hard to fill in the news desert that vulture capitalism has wreaked on rural areas. A faithful record of the history of our people is no longer as important as charging $800 per year for a shit paper with zero local coverage, printed 6 days a week — and rumored to be ceasing the print edition entirely — so that hedge fund fat cats can add to their already overstuffed wallets.
Yes, the dying throes of end-stage capitalism create war crimes. The wealthy and powerful are not held accountable, and corruption flourishes. The rot of the uber-rich slimes its way down to the local level, and no one can call bullshit.
It is past time to reclaim our own history and thus, our own future. Orwell was right — he who controls the present controls the past. He who controls the past controls the future.
We control our future. Gannett and its investors can suck straight off the planet.
