Forget Project Bluebook (and the two TV series spawned from it).
Forget pop culture. War of the Worlds and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are still big box office events based on fiction.
We have a problem and it is serious.
We simply do not track what is over our skies.
The United States and Canada share personnel, military bases, and equipment in to protect the skies over both countries. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is headquartered in Colorado. Created as an early warning system for Soviet intercontinental ballistic missiles and bombers approaching Canadian and U.S. airspace, it is charged with watching the skies over both countries and the Arctic. Until 9/11, NORAD was not allowed to track traffic inside the United States’ borders.
Apparently, they have missed a lot.
Aliens? Experimental aircraft? Covert surveillance from hostile foreign powers?
Who knows. But we need answers and soon.
