Civilians have been reporting UFOs since, well, forever. The world’s militaries have been much more tight lipped. Why?

In 2019, the U.S. military began releasing its UFO files. The incidents reported were not shocking. The UFO subculture has been strong since the 1950s and has spawned pop culture television shows and movies.

In fiction, the use of alien lives and culture has been used to show mankind a better future. Star Trek is the best example of this utopian ideal. Some popular works have portrayed potential alien life as dangerous. HG Wells’ The War of The Worlds was published in 1898 and has spawned two movies and at least two television series, all under the novel’s name. The most recent movie arrived in theaters in 2005 and the television show aired on the BBC and affiliated stations beginning in 2019.

Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that UFO reporting is no longer seen as a strange social ritual in the American deep South. There is a plausible explanation for this.

Regardless of whether our first contact is ET/Star Trek and not HG Wells/Independence Day, we must remember that there are BILLIONS of other star systems and basic math tells us that life is most certainly not confined to this little speck of dust.
